GOVERNMENT HIKES MSP PRICES ON RABI CROPS

Delhi (The Stelllar News) Saksham Kalia: Government of India, announced price hikes in Minimum support price of Rabi crops. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar announced that with the effect of decision the minimum support price of wheat is increased by Rs40/ quintal led the wheat price to Rs2,015/quintal.

Another crops whose price hikes includes oilseeds and pulses such as mustard, safflower and Masoor Dal saw higher MSP increases of up to 8%. Mustard seed is now hiked to Rs5,050 with the increase of Rs400. The MSP of barley has been hiked by Rs 35 to Rs 1,635 per quintal for the 2021-22 crop year from Rs 1,600 per quintal in the previous year. Among the pulses, the MSP for gram has been increased by Rs 130 to Rs 5,230 per quintal and that of lentil (masur) has been hiked by Rs 400 to Rs 5,550 per quintal.

According to the Centre, the cost of production of wheat for the upcoming marketing season of 2022-23 is ₹1,008 per quintal, meaning that the new MSP of ₹2,015 will result in 100% returns. Rapeseed and mustard farmers, who saw MSP rise 8.6%, or ₹400 per quintal, to a rate of ₹5,050 per quintal can also expect 100% returns. Masoor dal also saw a ₹400 per quintal hike, which means MSP for the lentil will be 7.8% higher than last year, with 79% returns over the cost of production. Chana or gram saw a 2.5% hike in MSP, resulting in 74% returns.
