Guwahati (The Stellar News): Assam government has declared 7 and 10 December as paid holidays in all factories, plantations, shops and commercial establishments, contractors establishment, firms, commercials and business establishments, banking Institutions, etc so that every voter can participate in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls on both the days. Mentionable is that the first phase of BTC elections is scheduled for 7 December where 21 seats in the districts of Baksa and Udalguri. The second phase will take place on 10 December when 19 seats underthe districts of Chirang and Kokrajhar will go for polling. The counting of votes is scheduled for 12 December. Over 24 lakh voters are ready for exercising their franchises to elect 40 representatives in the council covering four districts of Assam. Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), even though they are allies in the government, however decided to fights the council polls separately.
Former leader of All Bodo Students Union, Pramod Boro leads United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL) in the polls where the party will field candidates in all 40 seats. The Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) have decided to nominate candidates with mutual understandings. Kokrajhar Parliamentarian Naba Saraniya is leading campaigns for his nominees. Hagrama Mahailary,who ruled BTC for 15 years as its chief executive is leading poll-rallies along with Rihan Daimary, Pramila Rani Brahama,
Chandan Brahma, etc. State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State minister Himanta Biswa Sarmna, State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass, with other leaders are campaigned for the party candidates.
