District Mental Health Program Empowers CHOs in Kargil & Shargol Blocks

Kargil (The Stellar News): In Ladakh, a comprehensive Training-cum-Orientation program was conducted for Community Health Officers (CHOs) in Kargil & Shargol Blocks under The District Mental Health Program. The program, aimed to enhance CHOs’ understanding of Mental Health and Mental Illnesses.

The program featured a detailed presentation by Dr. Fatima Nissa, the Nodal Officer for the District Mental Health Program. Dr. Nissa covered a range of topics, including Mental Health and Mental Illness, Common Mental Disorders, Severe Mental Disorders, Childhood Mental Disorders, and emphasized the crucial role of CHOs in assessing Mental Illnesses.Sayeeda Banoo, a Psychiatric Nurse from the District Mental Health Program, provided valuable insights into Substance Use Disorders, Suicide Ideation, and Behavior.
Her presentation shed light on the significant role CHOs play in assessing Substance Use Disorders and conducting Suicide Risk Assessments. The event showcased a commitment to addressing mental health issues within the community, with a focus on empowering frontline health workers.
