Chief Information Commissioner hands over blackmailer “RTI Activist” to Police

Chandigarh: Taking strong and prompt action, the Chief Information Commissioner, Punjab Mr. S.S. Channy handed over blackmailer “RTI Activist” to the police. The RTI activist has took Rs.10,000 as bribe from the respondent to take his case back, filed in RTI Commission.

Disclosing further, Mr. Channy said that during Court proceeding of the State information commissioner Ms. Preety Chawla, “RTI activist” Gurdev Singh son of Gaga Singh, village kothe sapoora singh wala, district Bathinda told the court that he has got the information and the case may be closed. During the hearing, when respondent Pritam Singh, Lecturer, in-charge Principal of Govt. Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Mandi Kalan, Bathinda, was asked, he replied in-writing that he has paid bribe to Gurdev Singh in Commission premises. The Principal also stated that he has already taken photo copy of the currency notes, which he paid to appellant. When questioned by the court, Gurdev Singh confessed in writing that he has taken the money from the Principal.

Subsequently, Mrs. Chawla brought the whole episode to the notice of the Chief Commissioner in-writing. Taking strong cognizance, Mr. Channy has written a letter to SSP, Chandigarh. On the directions of SSP, both Principal and activist have been handed over to Station House Officer Maninder Singh of Police Station, Sector-17, Chandigarh, for further action.
