Guwahati(The Stellar News),Nava Thakuria: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, while launching a massive poll- campaign in support of the party’s five guarantees to the electorate, reiterated that her party after coming to power would nullify the citizenship amendment act (CAA), which witnessed massive public outrages in Assam’s Brahmaputra valley. Ms Gandhi attended a mega rally in Tezpur on 2 March to attract the voters in favour of her party nominees in the State legislative assembly elections, scheduled for 27 March, 1 and 6 April next.
The Congress also commits for offering five lakh government jobs, hiking daily wages of tea plantation workers ₹ 365, providing free electricity up to 200 units to every household and sanctioning ₹ 2,000 monthly income to all housewives. “People of Assam were cheated by a party five years ago which promised them 25 lakh jobs but gave them the CAA instead. The Congress party is not making empty promises but undertaking five guarantees,” said Ms Gandhi, whose photograph as a tea plucking lady at a Biswanath tea garden, had already gone viral on social media.
State Congress president Ripun Bora explained that the party studied major issues for common people through Asom Basaon Ahok mission and now it presents the solutions with the five guarantees (not mere promises). Congress Parliamentarian Pradyut Bordoloi reiterated that if the party comes to power, it would prohibit the implantation of CAA rules in Assam. Another Parliamentarian Gaurav Gogoi narrated that their government would create five lakh government jobs and at least 25 lakh private sector jobs within the next five years. Congress general secretary Jitendra Singh claimed that his party has successfully formed the grand alliance involving the Left parties, AIUDF, BPF, etc. Other senior State Congress leaders Debabrata Saikia, Rakibul Hussain, Sushmita Dev etc expressed confidence that this time their party will win the electoral race.
