“IMMIGRANT BANDLADESHIS ARE THREAT TO OUR CULTURE”: ASSAM CM HIMANTA BISWA SARMA

Assam (The Stellar News) Saksham Kalia: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma vowed to continue his crackdown on madrasas in the state, saying people want to pursue education in schools and colleges instead.

“I have closed 600 madrasas and I intend to close all madrasas because we do not want madrasas. We want schools, colleges and universities,” Himanta Biswa said while addressing the BJP’s Vijay Sankalp Yatra in poll-bound Karnataka’s Belagavi on Thursday.

Sarma has famously introduced a controversial law in Assam in 2020, according to which all state-run madrasas were to be converted into “regular schools” that impart “general education”. As of January 2023, there are 3,000 unregistered madrasas in the state.

Stepping up his rhetoric against illegal migrants, the senior BJP leader claimed that “people from Bangladesh come to Assam and create a threat to our civilization and culture”.
