CP EXHORTS PEOPLE TO CELEBRATE JANAM ASHTAMI ADHERING TO COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

Jalandhar (The Stellar News): The Commissioner of Police Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Tuesday appealed the people to avoid congestion and crowd on the auspicious occasion of Janam Ashtami in the temples while offering prayers and strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.

Mr Bhullar, who reviewed security arrangements at the ground level, said that Punjab Government has given relaxations in night curfew on the account of Janam Ashtami as curfew will be imposed from 1 am to 5 am on intervening night of August 12-13 (only for single day). He said that earlier, the night curfew was being imposed from 9 pm to 5 am in the Jalandhar. 

He said that the relaxations have been given by Punjab Government so that people can visit temples to offer prayers. He said that the people must have to obey the health safety guidelines related to COVID-19 during their visit to the temples. 

He said that not more than 20 people would be allowed to be assembled in the temple at one time and all must wear mask, maintain social distancing,  meticulous hand hygiene and avoid touching face, eyes and nose. 

He said that there are around 207 temples in jurisdiction of Jalandhar Commissionerate police for which elaborate security arrangements have been made in the city in wake of the celebrations. 

The Commissioner of Police further said that around 1000 Police officers/ officials have been deployed to keep a strict vigil in wake of the celebrations of Janam Ashtami.

He said that CCTV cameras have been installed at all the temples for keeping a regular check in and around the temples. 

The Commissioner of Police said that round the clock vigil was being kept in the city for which various patrolling parties of the Police officials have been set up. 

Likewise, he said that senior officers have been instructed to conduct inspection in the city to keep a strict eye on law and order situation. 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police along with other officers also visited Maha Laxmi Temple and gave necessary directions to the officers/ officials for the smooth celebrations of the auspicious occasion. 

Prominent among present occasion included ADCP Ms Vatsala Gupta, ACPs Mr Satinder Chadha, Mr Harsimrat Singh and others were present.
