DDC Rajouri convenes fruit and vegetable association meet

J&K/Rajouri (The Stellar News), Anil Bhardwaj: District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan on Tuesday convened a meeting with the concerned officers and members of the fruit and vegetable association to discuss with them the measures being taken to facilitate the fruit and vegetable growers of the district.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Planning Officer, Mohammad Khurshid; Area and Marketing Officer, Arvind Pangotra; Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Shammi Kumar besides the President, Joginder Pal Sharma and the members of the fruit and vegetable association were also present in the meeting.

The meeting was informed that to facilitate direct marketing in the district, a fruit and vegetable Mandi has been set up at Phalyana area of Rajouri district and the Mandi has 66 shops out of which some are not functional at present.

DDC asked the Area and Marketing Officer to issue a notice to the owners of the non-functional shops and ensure that these shops are made functional at the earliest.

DDC said that the need of an hour is to open Tehsil and Block level mandis which will help the farmers reeling under poverty by providing them with a place at their doorsteps to sell their produce hassle-free and get the desired price.

DDC asked the Area Marketing Officer to submit a proposal in this regard besides the DDC also directed him to motivate the vegetable growers to work in Mandis to be set up in Tehsil and Block level.

The meeting decided that the Tehsildars concerned shall identify state land for the construction purpose and the Rural Development Department shall execute the work on the construction of the tehsil and block-level Mandis.

The meeting also decided that a team comprising Area Marketing Officer, AGMO, Tehsildar concerned and concerned officers from Food Safety shall be constituted to ensure that fruits and vegetables are sold as per grading and at genuine rates and the team shall submit its report fortnightly.

DDC also asked the AMO to ensure that all the shops in Mandi at Pahalayana have a functional toilet and drinking water facilities besides he also directed him to maintain proper cleanliness and sanitation in all the shops.
