J&K/Rajouri(The Stellar News),Anil Bhardwaj: To raise public awareness about the pernicious health, social and economic consequences of TB and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic, the District Administration Rajouri under the overall supervision of the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan on Wednesday celebrated World TB Day. The Theme for World TB Day 2021 is ‘The Clock is Ticking’ which conveys the sense that the world is running out of time to act on the commitments to end the deadly disease made by global leaders.
On the occasion, a grand programme was organised here at CMO Complex in which the students, Asha workers, health officers and the staff members of the Health Department participated. Several speakers highlighted the importance of the day and talked about the measures being taken to eliminate this global pandemic. A detailed light was thrown on the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme which is a Public Health initiative of the Government of India and it functions as a flagship component of the National Health Mission and provides technical and managerial leadership to anti-tuberculosis activities in the country.
The participants were apprised about the achievements made under the NTEP across the district besides various kinds of free services including diagnosis, investigation and treatment being provided by the Government to the masses under the said programme were also highlighted on the occasion.The Deputy Commissioner while speaking on the occasion said that an effective communication strategy is required which would focus on reaching the maximum population, complemented with preventive, diagnostic and curative aspects of TB management.
Deputy Commissioner added that the students and the field functionaries of the Health Department can play a significant role in generating massive awareness about this and he urged upon them to aware the masses about how to prevent this disease and stay healthy. The Deputy Commissioner stated that there is also a need to address the issue that TB is considered a social stigma in a huge way. “TB is a priority disease which has been targeted for elimination from India by 2025 and community-led participation is an essential component to achieve the target within the stipulated time frame,” the DC said. Among the others, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Shamim Un Nissa Bhatti; District Tuberculosis officer, Dr Anwar Hussain; District Health Officer, Dr Khalid; District Immunization Officer, Dr Parveen Yograj; District ASHA Coordinator, Dr Farooq Mir besides the paramedical students, Asha workers and staff of the Health Department were also present on the occasion.
