Youth Wing of National Conference holds protest over hike in fuel prices in jammu

JAMMU (The Stellar News), Anil Bhardwaj: The Youth Wing of National Conference today staged strong protest against the hike in fuel prices and unemployment, seeking roll back the price hike. Led by Sandeep Singh Zonal President Youth wing Jammu and Tejinder Pal Singh (Aman), District President Jammu of National Conference , the protesters assembled in front of Press club and raised slogans against the steep hike in petroleum products. Talking to news persons, Tejinder Pal Singh (Aman) said the economy of the country was in tatters and unemployment was at its highest percentage during the last 45 years. “The fuel prices are all time high these days and about 80 per cent of the people who solely depend on daily wages are the worst hit. Their lives have been shattered,” he said.

Singh said in 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders were very vocal on inflation when the price of petrol was Rs 55 per litre, of diesel Rs 45 and of cooking gas Rs 450 per cylinder and used to take to the streets. “Now the prices of fuel and cooking gas are touching sky but the BJP is keeping silent. The Narendra Modi-led government is realising over 69 per cent tax on fuel while the price of crude oil in the international market has come down by 29 per cent,” he said.

Sandeep Singh zonal President YNC said the BJP government was more concerned about the interests of capitalists than the interests of the common man. He said that the COVID-19 pandemic left many people in Jammu and Kashmir without jobs or incomes, which they still have not recovered from. “COVID-19 left thousands of people unemployed in the country. People are struggling to meet their basic needs. Increase in prices of essential medicines and fuel will drastically affect their livelihood,” he said.

Nitish Goswami provincial sec. said that fuel hike has reached a height but government doesn’t understand the pain of the common people. It may say all untruth stuff – that they are doing good governance, but it is utter failure of governance. Every household is pained to buy petrol, gas and diesel at these hikes prices they talk about Rashtravad but in reality this is what they are doing for the people of this country.” Sahil Kerni and Rajat said that the National Conference would continue its protest to press for necessary steps to control the rising prices of essentials, including vegetables, pulses, petrol, diesel, vegetable oil and cooking gas.
