PM Modi meets Maldives President Solih, sign six pacts to strengthen bilateral ties

Delhi (The Stellar News): On Tuesday, India and Maldives signed six agreements to deepen co-operation in number of crucial areas. PM Modi stated that, New Delhi has been and will continue to be the “first responder” to any needs or crises the island nation faces.

Modi offered a Line Of Credit of USD 100 million from the neighbouring nation for timely completion of development projects after extensive discussions with Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

“We also reviewed projects for the construction of 4000 social housing units in Greater Male today. I am happy to announce that we will additionally provide financial support for 2,000 social housing units”, he said in his media statement.

“We have also decided to provide an additional line of credit of USD 100 million so that all projects can be completed in a time-bound manner”, he added.

According to the PM Modi, the Indian Ocean faces a major threat from international crime, terrorism, and drug trafficking, and strong ties between India and Maldives are essential for maintaining peace in the entire region.

He claimed that in addition to serving the interests of the people of both countries, the India-Maldives alliance is also contributing to the peace and stability of the entire region.

PM Modi said that India has always been the first to respond to Maldives needs or crises. The six agreements signed by the two parties will make it easier for them to work together on infrastructure development in Maldives as well as capacity building and cyber security.

“The amicable ties between India and Maldives have recently regained momentum. Our proximity has grown”, he added.

He claimed that despite the difficulties brought on by the COVID pandemic, the two nations’ co-operation is evolving into substantial alliance. According to Siloh’s remark, all parties reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to combating the menace of terrorism stating that Maldives would always be of utmost priority…Maldives will remain a real ally of India.
