Guwahati( The Stellar News): Assam Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while inaugurating 33/11 kv power sub-station of APDCL in Karbi Anglong yesterday, commented that the State government in Dispur is committed to make Assam stronger than ever before taking all sections of the people on board.
He also launched the website of Majuli Cultural University and visited a session of handicrafts technical training in the river island of mighty Brahmaputra. Addressing the public at Karbi Anglong, Sonowal assured that the BJP led government is working day in and day out to strengthen the harmonious coexistence of various communities in the State and make Assam more developed. Laid foundation stones of a modern auditorium and a model residential school under PMJKVY at Balipathar, Sonowal reiterated that the government would try its best to promote new development narratives taking along Barak, Brahmaputra, hills and plains while making a good use of the State resources.
Terming three hill districts of the State are the treasure trove for tourism, Sonowal stated that the government was utilising the resources to the fullest to build roads & bridges and other infrastructural facilities to bolster equal development of
Assam. Stating education as an important tool to develop human resources, Sonowal asked the teachers and parents to motivate their children to excel in their lives through it.
Later Sonowal ceremonially launched the cultural university website (www.muoc.ac.in) at the conference hall of Majuli district magistrate’s office. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed hope that the website would serve as a platform for disseminating information about various courses and other aspects of the university to students and visitors to the largest human habituated river island. Sonowal said that the university, coming up at the 100 bigha land campus at the river side, has been mooted to grow as anon-affiliating multidisciplinary higher educational institution with specialization in the studies and research of culture must play its role in culturally unifying the greater Assamese society while strengthening the socio- cultural foundation of Assam. Saying that the cultural university would be able to pave way for the State’s youth to study the colourful cultural heritage of Assam in a systematic way, Sonowal stressed on the need to turn the university into a cultural industry so that the students can learn to manage cultural institutions professionally.
He also emphasised on the importance of researching the folklore, traditional lifestyles of the indigenous communities of Assam to prepare the syllabus of the courses so that the university can become a model for other countries on cultural coexistence.
Revealing the government plan to make the university a tourist attraction in spiritually rich and biodiversity hotspot Majuli with
eco-friendly architecture, Sonowal informed that the teaching posts would soon be sanctioned for it.
On the occasion, the university vice-chancellor Dambarudhar Nath gave a presentation and disclosed that courses on audio
visual arts, literature, social science, language and linguistics, yoga, Indian traditional medicines, religious studies and comparative
analysis etc would be included. The function was attended by Uttar Kamalabari Satradhikar Janardan Devagoswami, Shankardev Kalakshetra secretary Sudarshan Thakur and other dignitaries.
