Guwahati (The Stellar News),Nava Thakuria: Popular Assamese cultural personality Bishnu Kharghoria has been honoured with a prestigious award constituted in memory of a litterateur and linguist of repute in Assam. State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal presented Anandaram Dhekial Phukan Award to the gifted actor in a function held at Anandaram Dhekial college of Nagaon locality on 14 February. Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal commented that it is really a matter of pride and prestige to honour an eminent personality by an award instituted after the name of a great personality like Dhekial Phukan, who was often called the people of Assam to concentrate on agriculture and commerce. “In order to put that appeal into practice, everybody should go forward adopting modern outlook of science & technology,” said Sonowal appreciating the college for creating rich human resources for years together.
In presence of Dhekial Phukan college’s principal Dr Surjit Kr Bhagawati, legislator Rupak Sharma. ATDC chairman Jayanta Mallabaruah, former Union minister Rajen Gohain, district magistrate Kavitha Padmanabhan and other dignitaries, Sonowal asserted that because of the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards Assam and north-eastern region, it is experiencing unprecedented developments. In another function, Sonowal laid foundations of several projects and inaugurated a few ventures for Nagaon under the city infrastructure development fund. He inaugurated the construction work of preservation & beautification of Morikolong Beel involving a financial outlay of rupees 25.34 crore. Sonowal at the same time laid the foundation stone of Morikolong bus stand with a financial outlay of rupees 6.34 crore.
He also inaugurated the reconstructed Nagaon cultural complex (rupees 1.99 crore) and construction works for beautification of Kolong river banks (rupees 22.92 crore), laid the foundation stone of the work involving the repairement and beautification of Nagaon town roads (rupees 8.19 crore).
