District Adm Rajouri celebrates World Water Day in collaboration with BBBP Team

J&K/Rajouri (The Stellar News), Anil Bhardwaj: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan today attended the valedictory function of the World Water Week here at a grand programme organised by the District Administration Rajouri in collaboration with the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign at Government Degree College Rajouri.

On the occasion of the Celebration of World Water Day, the live streaming of the launch of Jal Shakti Abhiyan by the Hon’ble Prime Minister was witnessed by persons from all walks of life in a function organised at PG College Rajouri.

Among the others, DDC Chairman, Naseem Liyaqat Chowdhury; Vice-Chairman DDC, Shabir Khan; SSP, Sheema Nabi Qasba; President MC Rajouri, Mohd Arif; DDC member Sunderbani, Rajinder Sharma; DDC Member Rajouri, Sain Rashid; DDC member Thanamandi, Qyoom Mir;ADC Rajouri, Sher Singh; District Programme Officer, Kartar Singh; Additional SP Liyaqat Chowdhury; SE Jal Shakti Department; DSEO, Bilal Rashid Mir; ACD, Sushil Khajuria; DPO, Chander Kant Bhagat, DIO NIC, Muzaffar Mir, ADIO, Ashwani Sharma, besides other district and sectoral officers.

World Water Week aims to link scientific understanding with policy and decision-making and provide concrete solutions to water, environmental and development challenges. The theme of World Water Day 2021 is “Valuing Water” and has been chosen to highlight the value of water in our daily lives.

World Water Day is observed annually across the globe on March 22 to highlight the importance of water and raise awareness about the water crisis that the world faces besides the day also highlights the effects it can have on climate change. The day also shows how our use of water can help reduce floods, droughts, scarcity and pollution, and how it can help fight climate change itself.

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner said that the District Administration Rajouri is making persistent efforts to provide drinking water facility to all the households of the district and numerous initiatives are underway in this regard.

Deputy Commissioner informed that the District Administration has decided to construct 1000 Kulhs in one month for irrigation purpose and 5000 more Kulhs would be constructed in the coming months. Besides, the repair of already existing Khuls is underway in different Blocks.
These khuls will increase the area under irrigation and also help in seepage of water thus helping in recharging of the water table,” the DDC added.

Work on One of the Major Projects in terms of irrigation has been resumed which was halted due to some reasons.

The District Administration is working on mission mode in making all the defunct hand pumps functional in the District. He said 102 defunct hand pumps have been made functional in Sunderbans in one month.

Deputy Commissioner also said that necessary instructions have been passed on to the concerned authorities from the Jal Shakti Department for repairing remaining the old and defunct hand pumps

Deputy Commissioner urged upon the people to play a constructive role in water conservation and preservation by ensuring judicious use of this valuable gift of nature. He said that women are the main sufferer due to water crises.

The Deputy Commissioner said the purpose of linking today’s event with Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign is that Women and children bear the primary responsibility for water collection. Water collection in India is a woman’s job, and there is non-respite, even when she’s menstruating, ill, or has something else to do; this is just because water is the most indispensable gift of nature.

” Access to safe drinking water is right and district administration is committed to providing safe drinking water to every household of the District,” the Deputy Commissioner reiterated.

“We have constituted a women cell in the district with the sole purpose to preserve water by empowering women of the area,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

The role of women is pivotal in curbing in domestic wastage of water but guaranteeing wise use and conservation.

The Deputy Commissioner said the women can also educate their children and family members about the judicious use of water and the importance of water conservation.


The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the Administration is working on the conserve, preserve and repair of water bodies in the district.

Cultural Programs were also presented on the theme of water conservation and women empowerment by Artists of Sangeet Kala Academy Poonch.

Bilal Rashid Mir was the stage Secretary on the occasion and coordinated the Programme very efficiently.

The water conservation pledge was also administered along with the audience.

Deputy Commissioner also launched Safety Drive, a concept conceived by Women Welfare officer Dr Anum Mirza under Mahila Shakti Kendra in collaboration with Ms Yasmeen Kouser (United Martial Arts Club, Rajouri where under Self Defence Training shall be imparted to Girls.

Similar functions have been organised in all the Subdivision, 19 Blocks and Panchayats. Besides, a plantation drive was also carried out in some Subdivisions and at MSK Office Rajouri.
