Payments worth Rs. 773 crore directly made to farmers during ongoing wheat procurement season: Deputy Commissioner

Jalandhar (The Stellar News): To ensure timely purchase, lifting and payment formula was being implemented in the district in letter and spirit, the district administration had ensured payment of Rs. 773.91 crore into farmers’ bank accounts during the ongoing wheat procurement. Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that nearly 89 percent payment against the procured wheat has already been made to the farmers. He further added that the administration was leaving no stone unturned to ensure hassle-free and smooth wheat procurement season as the aim of timely purchase, lifting and payment was achieved in the district.

 The DC stated that farmers’ help desk have been established in the grain markets to help them in getting their payment directly into the bank accounts adding that these desks assisting farmers in enrolling at Anaaj Kharid Portal. He further added that all the procurement agencies were making concerted efforts to purchase every single grain brought into Mandis by the farmers.  Mr.Thori mentioned that state procurement agency Pungrain has emerged as the leading agency in the procurement season by transferring Rs. 245.13 crore into the bank accounts of farmers. Similarly, Markfed has paid Rs. 215.94 crore, Punsup Rs. 179.73 crore, PSWC Rs. 106.79 crore, and FCI has made payment of Rs. 26.32 crore through direct benefit transfer mode.
