The name of this freedom fighter is Baikunth Shukla. Baikunth shukla was born on 15th may, 1907 in a middle class family of Bengal presidency. He was the nephew of Yogendra Shukla who has also fought for the freedom of India. As he belongs to middle class family so after completing his study he indulged into the job of teacher. But after watching the situation of India he started participating in revolutions and movements. Baikunth Shukla has actively participated in Civil Disobedience Movement in 1930 and was also imprisoned in Patna jail camp. He got released along with other Satyagrahis from jail after Gandhi-Irwin-pact. After that he came in contact with Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and became revolutionary.

He was hanged because he murdered the Phanindra Nath Ghosh who had turned as evidence for government which led to the hanging of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. Ghosh was the member of Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and had treacherously betrayed the cause by turning an approver, giving evidence to Government. So, Shukla was commissioned to plan the execution of Ghosh as an act of ideological vendetta which he carried out successfully on 9 November 1932. He was arrested and tried for the killing. Shukla was convicted and hanged in Gaya Central Jail on 14 May 1934. He was only 28 years old.

We all remember our freedom fighters but sometime we ignore some freedom fighters just because they were not the face leaders of revolutions. But we have to believe that if these freedom fighters didn’t supported the main leaders then we don’t have freedom now. Today on 15th may it’s time to give tribute to Baikunth shukla on his birthday and say thanks, that he gave his life for country.
