MAHATMA GANDHI AND LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI: ONE LET INDIA TOWARDS FREEDOM AND OTHER REFORMED INDIA’s FINANCIAL POLICIES

Delhi (The Stellar News) Saksham Kalia: 2 October, a day on which two Great Leaders of India born. Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, those two who made India’s way towards freedom and significant visibility in the world. Mahatma Gandhi who took his education in South Africa, where he faced racial in-discrimination and inspired to fight for brown people, let him to fight for the freedom of Bharat (India). Person who gave slogan, Do or die (Karo Ya Maro) which let the British government to leave the country. “Do or die” became a very popular slogan during India’s fight for freedom against the British.

Mahatma Gandhi had coined the slogan during a meeting of the All India Congress Committee which took place on August 7, 1942. On the next day, Quit India resolution was passed with an overwhelming majority which declared the immediate end of British rule in India. The slogan was widely accepted with people ready to lay their lives to get India its independence from the British rule. This is the not the only thing, if we start discussing the contribution of Gandhi than this article would become a material of a book.

While the second leader who also born on 2nd October was Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s second Prime minister who replaced Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru after his death in 1964. The time he took post of PM, Pakistan attacked India and was also facing a huge food crisis. At that time when India have lot of problems to fought, he gave slogan, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, which boosted the enthusiasm of citizens in the country.

Shastri continued Nehru’s socialist economic policies with central planning. He promoted the White Revolution – a national campaign to increase the production and supply of milk – by supporting the Amul milk co-operative of Anand, Gujarat and creating the National Dairy Development Board. Mahatma Gandhi initialize the way towards the freedom of India while Lal Bahadur Shastri bring India towards the economic development and food grain production on record levels, that India is enjoying today.
