This was followed by a motivational address by Mrs Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ Abhiyan, Jammu and Kashmir UT, highlighting the milestones clocked by women worldwide and nationwide, the various welfare schemes for women and new opportunities for women in the armed forces. Indian Army also felicitated six girl students of the village and adjoining areas for successfully passing the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination, an unprecedented feat for the region.

It was heartwarming to hear the girls’ dreaming of donning the uniform after the historic decision last year; besides, they were all willing and motivated to serve the nation in whichever way they resonated to. The mesmerising voice of a young girl achiever with her song “O ri Chiraiya” capped the beautiful day like icing on the cake. The event was whole-heartedly appreciated by the womenfolk and the local populace, who thanked the Indian Army for playing a vital role in women empowerment, giving them a platform to raise their voice in the society as a whole. One could hear it in the wind if one listened- “The question isn’t who is going to let me, it is who is going to stop me.”
