IMA Punjab supports MR campaign

The Stellar News: IMA Punjab fully supports the MR vaccination campaign launched in Punjab by Govt of India and appeals to general public to cooperate fully in this gigantic task of eliminating measles and rubella by 2020.

Please ignore these messages. IMA warns such elements to desist from their nefarious designs to sabotage this programme

 Measles immunization directly contributes to the reduction of under-five child mortality, and in combination with rubella vaccine, it will control rubella and prevent CRS (Congenital Rubella Syndrome). The Measles-Rubella campaign is a part of global efforts to reduce illness and deaths due to measles and rubella/CRS in the country.)

 All children between 9 months to 15 yrs of age are to be covered. Already 13 states have been covered under this programme. These injections will give protection against measles and rubella diseases which are major cause of mortality and morbidity. Rubella causes congenital anomalies in new born. This is a big physical and socio economic burden on the society. This programme will considerable reduce incidences of these two diseases and contribute towards healthy children, healthy State and healthy Nation.

This programme has been finalized in consultation with top experts nationally and internationally. There should not be any concern with quality of the injections as these have been approved by World Health Organization. MR Vaccine is a safe and an effective vaccine, in use for over 40 years and in many countries across the world. The same vaccine is being given in routine immunization programme of India and in many neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Myanmar, and in USA, Japan, Canada, Australia etc.

 IMA Punjab appeals to all its members to properly guide the parents and encourage them to get their children vaccinated. They should allay the fears of the parents in this regard.
