Is the Uri attack culminating to a sure war between the neighbouring countries?, is a question which is cropping up in everybody’s mind. There were many speculations on how the Modi Government will react to these incidents. Would it lead to just a war of words or would it culminate to war? These were the two extremes on which speculations were being made in the last couple of weeks.

Last night India conducted surgical strikes along the Line of Control to safeguard our nation’s borders. After last night’s strikes by Indian army, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Ranbir Singh said that significant casualties were caused to terrorists and those trying to shield them. These strikes were conducted when very specific and credible information was received yesterday, that some terrorist teams had positioned themselves at launch pads along the LoC with an aim to carry out infiltration and terrorist strikes in J&K and various other metros in our country.

This comes as a big statement of intent from Prime Minister Narendra Modi that India will not sit quietly in the face of adversity and it will act to neutralise any threat to the country. The operation was obviously kept under the wraps due to operational concerns, but this strike has been long awaited. These surgical strikes are a big departure from the previously peaceful retaliation policy of the Modi Government. But with Pakistan giving clear indications of violent undertakings by supporting the terrorists and infiltration activities, there is no surprise in what is unfolding at the international border between India and Pakistan.

The “surgical strikes” along de-facto border, conducted by the Indian army is being termed as “cross-border fire” incident by Pakistan. The question is whether Pakistan is underplaying this to stall for time so that they can prepare for a coordinated attack. If that is the case then are there any indications on what the Indian Government is ready to do? Are we prepared to go all out and defend the Nation with a preemptive strike or are we going to deploy the policy of wait and watch.

Punjab on Highest level of Alert

Today the Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Badal called in an emergency meeting of the officials of the border areas and gave them instructions on keeping their respective areas on high alert. Further all the Police and Medical facilities are being prepared for the worst. The border areas have been evacuated or are in the process of being evacuated. These are few of the things which were done on war footing today. These preparations do give some indication on what may this lead to.

Pakistan’s Point of View

Looking from the Pakistan’s point of view, when an enemy nation clears it’s borders and prepares the surrounding areas for the worst, it shows that there may be something on play. This would definitely lead them to prepare for some action during the night. With the history between the two countries, emotions are high on both sides of the border. There may or may not be direct orders of a strike from either side so far but there is no saying what would happen if one man loses his cool from either side due to the high tension and emotions. Rage and emotions mixed with the volatile history of the two countries is an explosive mix which should be carefully treaded upon.

With last night and today’s actions of the Indian government it is clear that we will not go quietly into the night and for sure we will not surrender without a fight.
