Bokaro airport to connect Patna, Kolkata soon

Guwahati(The Stellar News):The Airports Authority of India (AAI), in its continuous endeavor to link under-served and un-served airports through regional connectivity scheme (RCS) routes, has been developing the airport at Bokaro of Jharkhand State in central India,for commencement of civil flight operations.

Now Bokaro will be connected to Patna and Kolkata under the RCS-UDAN. Presently an aerodrome owned and managed by Bokaro steel plant under Steel Authority of India limited (SAIL), the Bokaro airport is handling non-scheduled flights operation for SAIL aircraft or necessary VIP movements, said a statement issued from AAI’s New Delhi based corporate communications office. For commencement of scheduled flight operations, the AAI has undertaken the development works at an estimated cost of rupees 46 crore which includes construction of terminal building along with other associated facilities. The terminal has been designed to process 300 passengers during the peak hours.

Works for strengthening and re-carpeting of runway, apron and taxi track are also underway to make the airport suitable for operation of ATR-72 aircraft. As more than 80% of the project work is completed the airport is expected to be ready soon for civil operations. Moreover, the AAI statement added that its operationalization should help boost the local economy and provide better connectivity to the air travelers.
