Awareness Programme on Gender Sensitization held at BGSBU

J&K/ Rajouri (The Stellar News): A one day Programme on Gender sensitization under the banner of mega Campaign of the Nation “Women Empowerment” & “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” was organized by Internal complaints Committee and Women Cell, at Conference Hall Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri Dr. Anum Mirza, Women welfare officer, District Rajouri was the resource person of the programme. Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor, BGSBU in his message emphasized on the role of gender sensitization for women empowerment. Prof. Masood congratulated the team of ICC & Women Cell for organizing such programme and stressed on the need for conducting such awareness programmes in future also. Dr. Farkhanda Ana, Member ICC presented the backdrop of the programme theme and coordinated the programme.

Dr Anum Mirza enlightened the gathering regarding declining Child Sex Ratio, Sukanya Samridhi Yojna , Janani Suraksha Yojna, Ujjwala scheme, One stop centre, women safety laws, women helpline no. 181, SMAS, Aasra Scheme (Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana), Janani Suraksha Yojana, Vocational Training Centres, IGWPS, Various Women Empowerment Schemes and Scholarships. Dr. Anum through her presentation generated awareness about BBBP Campaign and social assistance being provided to women in distress. She emphasized on various services being provided at District level and informed the house that, first of its kind Public Grievances Redressal Cell (24*7) has been established at DC office, on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan, who is closely monitoring the same. She also urged the gathering to participate in the Mega Awareness programme on Water Conservation-2021 & Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign scheduled to be held on 22nd of March, 2021 at Dakbangalow Rajouri under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Rajouri.

Dr. Romina Rashid, Convener ICC, in her remarks said that despite increase in literacy rate of women over the last few years, the female foeticide is increasing at an alarming rate. Women are venerated in all religions of the world, but the socially constructed rigid models have reduced the stature of women in society. These models can be dismantled by providing right kind of education to both the boys and the girls to create a gender balance in the society. Women need to be empowered intellectually to break the glass ceilings that obstruct their professional and personal growth. She further emphasised that women have proved their mettle in various fields of life, they emerged as better leaders in Covid 19 pandemic with the qualities of resilience, empathy, honesty. She thanked the vice chancellor for providing an apt environment in the varsity for the promotion of such programmes. 

Dr. Susheel Verma, Head, Dept. of Botany and Dr. Pervez Abdullah, Associate Dean of students expressed their views on the theme.The programme witnessed good participation of faculty members, University officers, Non-teaching University staff, Research scholars and students. Prominent among others, Dr. Zaheer Abaas HoD Mathematical Sciences, Prof. tasleem Arif, HoD IT Department, besides othere Teachers of University were present.
