Punjab (The Stellar News) Saksham: Punjab Government announced increase in grant of Shagun Scheme beneficiaries. Punjab Government announced that now girls can get Rs 51000 instead of Rs 21000 at the time of marriage under Shagun Scheme.
As per the promise in manifesto of Congress Party in 2017 Assembly Elections, Punjab Government took this decision. Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal had notifies this decision in 2021-2022 year Budget. By this decision Government of Punjab will get burden of Rs 6000cr every year. This decision will be implemented from 1st July, 2021.
This scheme was introduced in Punjab to lower the percentage of child marriage in State. Under this scheme government gives financial assistance to financially weaker families, minority caste families, daughters of widow women of any caste at the time of daughter’s marriage.
Daughters with age 18 or above and belonging to above considered categories can get benefits of this scheme. Also the annual income of family cannot exceed Rs 32790. It’s must for the family to submit grant application before the marriage or within a month after marriage.
