ADMINISTRATION GEARS UP FOR NEW CENSUS AS PUNJAB CS VIRTUALLY REVIEWS GROUND-LEVEL PREPAREDNESS

JALANDHAR, (The stellar news), Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer Ghanshyam Thori today directed officials to get ready for the new census which is expected to start mid-year. Participating in a virtual review meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Secretary Anirudh Tiwari, the DC said that all the requisite modalities with respect to conduct of census would be completed within stipulated time-frame so that this mammoth exercise could be initiated immediately after the notification was issued by the government.

The deputy commissioner further mentioned that all the officials concerned would be apprised of the pre-census activities so as to acquaint them with this task. He said that the census would be conducted in two phases during which field officials will visit their assigned areas to collect the information from the citizens. The census would be conducted online this time using a mobile application wherein enumerators have to feed data live from the location, he said, adding the government has also included regional languages to further facilitate field officials. 

Meanwhile, the DC further reviewed day to day data collection and updation work being carried out at various government establishments including civil registration system, revenue department, water supply and sanitation department, publication of panchayati wise census data, slum information, besides others and asked the officials to ensure each and every data collected and uploaded in the system properly as any kind of negligence in this task would be highly unwarranted.
