DILEMMA OF MAKING CHOICE BETWEEN PUNJAB AND CANADA

Punjab (The Stellar News) Saksham Kalia: Doing Graduation is tough but more difficult in Punjab as students more pressure of going to Canada than popcorns in Pressure cooker. Pursuing my graduation in Punjab and decided to stay in India for my future goals like hundreds of Punjabi students is making feel insecure for my future. I live in Punjab where students plan to go abroad after 12th from their middle education.

Watching their cousins, family friends, relatives who are well settled in Canada or other countries mentally force them to move foreign countries. Punjab leads at first position from where the most number of students go to foreign countries for higher education and permanently settle their. Between 2016 and February 2021, about 9.84 lakh people moved to other countries from Punjab and Chandigarh (including 3.79 lakh students and over 6 lakh workers), according to a Lok Sabha.

As I am also facing the same situation, so I can easily relate and accurately describe my condition presently. When I presently watch my classmates who were good in studies are moving to Canada, takes my moral down that I chose to stay in India. I sometime ask myself what makes them to leave their parents as they have capability to make good money in India.

But then in another second I got my answer from my own mind. The Infrastructure, the respect, the social security and the facilities that these foreign countries offer are far better than India.

The peer pressure of going to Canada is at extreme level. I’ll share my experience what I saw in society in last two years. Just before I was giving my 12th board papers, a single question from my classmates, my parents and my relatives continuously asking me, will you go to Canada after 12th?

My replying them with a smiling face, let’s see where destiny takes. And I passed out my 12th, noticed that no one is going to Canada, I felt amazed and thought majority of people want to stay in India. But 90% of my classmates made me wrong next year, when I started watching their Instagram posts clicked in Canada. Then I came to know, real reason why they were in India despite passing out 12th was closed flights amid covid-19 pandemic.

These days when I go to family functions, parties or official events, one question from many is why didn’t you went to Canada? And I don’t have any solid answer to impress them. Another tragedy is most of my classmates in graduation are also planning to move Canada after graduation.

This means India is offering nothing despite the emotional touch that will force them not to leave India. The issue is raised on many platforms but nothing is done to discourage Indian students to leave their country. Intelligent students are not ready to stay in India so this means our talent is moving.
