Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is set to resign from his position


Delhi ( The Stellar News ): Sri Lanka is facing the worst economic crisis in the last seven decades and the civil unrest is at its peak. As the protesters reached presidential residence on July 9, 2022, Gotabaya Rajapaksa was forced to fleet. The protesters are gathered in a large number in the capital, Colombo, demanding the president’s resignation ignoring the curfew orders issued by the authorities on last Thursday. Due to this extreme civil unrest, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has decided to resign from his position. He will sign his resignation letter tomorrow, July 13, 2022 and hand it over to the speaker. It comes to now that he will also make a special announcement after stepping down from his position.

Opposition party has nominated Sajith Premasada for the interim presidency. Sri Lanka’s Parliament will get a new president on July 20, 2022 said by the speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
