Delhi ( The Stellar News ): India’s claim for UN Security Council may get strengthen if it surpasses China and becomes most populous country in the world by the year 2023. According to the report released by The World Population Prospects 2022, India’s population is 1.412 billion in 2022 whereas China stands at 1.426 billion.
Director of the Population Division of the UN Dept. of Economics and Social Affairs, John Wilmoth said that if India becomes the most populous nation, it may strengthen their claim on that they should be the part of the council. India has been at forefront of the year long efforts to reform the Security Council saying it rightly deserves a place as a permanent member of the council which in its current form does not represent the geo-political realities of the 21st century. Along with this Wilmoth said that the population of China may reduce in a drastic way considering the population control policies they adopted in 1970s.
