Heavy rainfall claimed 10 lives in 24 hours in Nagpur

Delhi (The Stellar News): Heavy rain-showers have claimed 10 lives in Nagpur district during the last 24 hours. A few deaths were caused by lightning strike. Nagpur district has received 476mm of rainfall which is 100mm more than the average and Orange alert has been issued by the authorities considering the gravity of the situation. Water is being released from 18 dams in the district and 3 dams have water level up to 100%. District collector R Vimla said that there is a risk to the villages along the riverside and administration is ready to handle any emergency including evacuation. People have been advised not to venture out. The district administration has issued helpline numbers 0712-25668 and 1077 for assistance.
7 metre water level in rivers is far from the flooding level which is 13 metre. There is also a cause of concern if water in the rivers crosses 8,000 cumecs. On Wednesday it was 5800 cumecs. Farmers are advised not to venture out as chances of being struck by lightning are high. Meanwhile as much as 8000 cumecs of water is continued to be released from the Gosikhurd dam, there are no reports of flooding so far. The district administration has issued safety guidelines to the public. he villages in Bhiwapur Tehsil, in particular, are facing the danger of floods stated by District collector R Vimla.
