FIR against MD of Basant Ice-Cream

Hoshiarpur | An FIR has finally been registered against the owner of Basant Resort and Ice-cream parlour , Mr. Kawalpreet Singh. In November 2013, two parents wanted to get their children admitted to Sacred Heart Convent School, Saraba Nagar Ludhiana. They had filled up the admission forms for their children. During that time they were approached by a mediatory, who set up a meet with Mr. Kawalpreet Singh. He gave assurance that the admission would be done as he knew the Principal of the School personally. For this Mr. Kawalpreet Singh asked the parents for Rs. 2.5 Lakhs per child. A total amount of Rs. 5 Lakhs was paid to Mr. Kawalpreet Singh at that time. When the list of admitted students was posted by the School, the names of the children were not displayed. Mr. Jasbir Singh father of one of the child approached Mr. Kawalpreet Singh for clarification. The story told by Mr. Kawalpreet Singh was that the school fee had not been deposited that’s why the names are not on the list. An amount of Rs. 1.20 Lakhs was further paid by both the parents as school fee, for which receipt were provided by Mr. Kawalpreet Singh.

Principal’s Signatures Forged

When there was no notification by the school on reopening the parents of both the children Mr. Jasbir Singh and Mr. Vikram Lamba approached the Principal to discuss the matter. They were in shock when the Principal told them that there were no deposits of the said amounts in the records. They were further told that Mr. Kawalpreet Singh had earlier done the same thing with other parents and due to this his entry into the school complex was banned. The Principal further stated to the parents and later to the police that the signatures as well as the school letterhead used by Mr. Kawalpreet Singh were forged.

Two year Long Ordeal

Later; when approached Mr. Kawalpreet Singh, allegedly threatened the parents. A complaint was forwarded to the then Police Commissioner of Ludhiana. Since 2014 till date the file has seen a change of guard of 5 officers and it took over 2 years before the FIR was registered recently.

As per the SHO of Saraba Nagar Ludhiana, Mr. Satwant Singh, the police had raided the premises of the Basanr resort as well as the house of Mr. Kawalpreet Singh but was nowhere to be found. At present a search is in place for the location of the mobile carried by Mr. Kawalpreet Singh. The police is hopeful that soon an arrest would be made.

Another Case in Hoshiarpur

Last week another complaint was filed by Mr. Navdeep Kumar Aggarwal against Mr. Kawalpreet Singh (MD Basant Group of Companies) in the Hoshiarpur courts under section 138 of the IPC. A sum of Rs. 5 Lakhs is in question in this complaint. Mr. Kanwalpreet Singh had borrowed the said amount from Mr. Navdeep Aggarwal from Hoshiarpur in August 2011 and when the approached for repayment of the loan extended a cheque was given which was dishonoured when deposited. So far the defendant Mr. Basant has not given evidence to the contrary but has pleaded not guilty in front of the Hoshiarpur Court.
