Guwahati (The Stellar News): Congress veteran Tarun Gogoi who was cremated with full state honours on Thursday at Navagraha crematorium in the city, where State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal paid floral tributes to Gogoi. Only son Gaurav Gogoi, who is a Congress Parliamentarian led the rituals to consign the State’s consecutive three-term chief minister into flame. Besides Sonowal, a number of State ministers including Himanta Biswa Sarma, Congress Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh, State Congress chief Ripun Bora, State BJP president Ranjit Dass, legislators, paty workers, representative of social organizations etc were present on the occasion. Assam police personnel gave gun salutes to the mortal remains of Gogoi, who died of post-corona complications on Monday at Guwahati medical college hospital.
Gogoi’s last journey started from Shrimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra in the morning hours as the coffin carrying his mortal remains were taken out of the cultural complex with a procession leading to his government residence at Dispur, where his wife Dolly Gogoi, daughter Chandrima Gogoi along with other close family members completed their rituals.
Then Gogoi’s mortal remains were taken to Rukminigaon Church, Zooroad Naamghar, Bura Jame Masjid, Ugratara Devalaya before reaching the crematorium. His footprints and handprints were also collected by a group of artists as rituals. Hundreds of thousands of residents in Assam in particular witnessed the moments through the live coverage of various media outlets.
