Himachal (The Stellar News): Governor Bandaru Dattatraya paid floral tribute to Indian social activist, thinker, anti-caste social reformer and writer Jyotirao Govindrao Phule on his death anniversary at Raj Bhavan, today. On the occasion, the Governor said that Shri Phule waged a lifelong struggle against social inequalities, poverty, superstition, untouchability and caste system.
He came to the conclusion that we could overcome these social evils only by education. He and his wife, Savitribai Phule, were pioneers of women education in India. Mahatma Phule started his first school for girls in 1848 in Pune. “In the present circumstances, by providing qualitative education to the poor, deprived and exploited class, it will be a true tribute to Shri Phule”, said the Governor.
