“YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR RAGING SECOND WAVE IN TAMIL NADU AND PUDUCHERRY”: MADRAS HC

Madras(The Stellar News) Saksham Kalia: On Monday, Madras High Court strictly blamed ECI (Election commission of India) for the rapid increase of covid cases in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. High court said that, if the officials of ECI were on other planet when leaders of multiple parties were organising large rallies by ignoring all health protocols.

On hearing a writ petition filed by transport minister M.R Vijayabhaskar, a contestant from karur constituent assembly, demanding to take adequate measures for fairness counting. In this hearing High court slammed ignoring practice of ECI during assembly elections.

High court also asked ECI to submit a plan of covid-19 protocols to be followed on May 2(counting day), otherwise the counting could be postponed for June or July month. Now, ECI have to give plan to High Court till 30th April.

High Court wondered on how can political rallies being allowed with large crowd where no one was following health protocols. Justices also added that, “Your institution is singularly responsible for ranging 2nd wave. Your officers should be booked under murder charges.”

Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy said that “Public health is paramount. Distressing that Constitutional Authorities ought to be reminded. It is only when a citizen survives that he’ll be able to enjoy the rights that a democratic republic guarantees”. 

On Thursday, High Court already issued orders of allowing only 500 people in road shows and rallies.
