Delhi (The Stellar News) Saksham: On Wednesday, Centre Government of India notifies the implementation of GNCTD Act, 2021 from 28th April, 2021. This act clearly limits the powers of Delhi Government and enhance the powers of Delhi LG.
On March 28, Indian President Ram Nath Kovind had given assent to the government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2021, which means Delhi Lieutenant Governor will now act as the “government” in union territory.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act 2021 (15 of 2021), the Central Government hereby appoints the 27th April 2021 as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force,” the notification signed by additional secretary in the MHA, Govind Mohan, said.
This law gives primacy to Delhi LG Anil Baijal over Delhi government. Now, it’s must for Delhi Government to take opinion from Delhi LG before taking any decision.
This law was passed in last month, opposition created ruckus in parliament and walked out. On the day when law was passed, Delhi Government called it “sad day for Indian democracy”. The noticeable point is that this law came into power when there is a big disagreement between both centre and state over the distribution of oxygen.
