JAMMU/RAJOURI (THE STELLAR NEWS), REPORT-ANIL BHARDWAJ: Karwa Chauth, the traditional festival celebrated by married Hindu women for the long life and well-being of their husbands, was observed with great enthusiasm across the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch on Thursday. The local markets witnessed considerable activity as women came out for shopping and preparations for the festival.

Married women dressed up in traditional attire and observed the day-long fast, praying for the long life and prosperity of their husbands. Young unmarried women also participated in the celebrations, observing fasts for their future life partners.
In a heartwarming gesture, several husbands also observed the fast alongside their wives, showing equal enthusiasm and making efforts to make the occasion special for them. Women were particularly excited about the festival and left no stone unturned in preparing for the occasion. From applying mehndi to purchasing cosmetics, clothes and other festive items, markets remained busy throughout the day.
As evening approached, women began preparations for the traditional worship rituals. Many gathered in groups with decorated puja thalis and waited eagerly for the moon to appear. Karwa Chauth holds special significance for married women, as the fast is traditionally broken after sighting the moon. Following the moonrise, women offer prayers, seek their husbands’ blessings and break their fast by performing the prescribed rituals and consuming prasad.
