Rs. 60,000 iPhone 7 camera costs a measly Rs. 1740

Early this month Apple had launched it’s much awaited iPhone 7 and it’s variants. There was much hype on it’s launch as it was the first time that the prices for the Indian market were announced during the launch itself, thus putting an end to to unnecessary speculations. Another surprising fact was that with this launch iPhone became cheaper for the Indian market. The importance of Indian market for Apple is quite significant due to the tough going in China. Apple’s iPhone got unexpected boost due to the rival Samsung Galaxy Note 7 suffering a shaky start with it’s battery issues. The festive season in India seems to have brought big festivities in the Apple’s camp.

In an another first Apple’s CEO Mr. Tim Cook visited India and seemed highly positive of the company’s growth in India. There are speculations of Indian market seeing the opening of official Apple retail stores.

Indian market is quite excited with these turn of events but then a curve ball came in the form of a report by “The Verge” on analyst firm Chipwork data. The camera of the iPhone 7 variant, which is priced at Rs 60,000 in India, costs the company only Rs 1,740 per unit to make. While the battery costs Rs 270, the touchscreen costs Rs 2,475, and the memory and storage cost about Rs 2,540. Notably, over 90% of smartphone owners use their devices as cameras.
