Sonowal gives away Assam Police Hackathon awards

Guwahati (The Stellar News): The youth population provides India an advantage over many other countries in the world. Our youth are full of ideas and innovation and there is a need to  exploit  their  talent  in   the best possible  manner  to  realize Prime   Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of making India a leader of the world, said Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Presenting awards to winning teams at the first Assam Police Hackathon2020 during a program held in the city yesterday Sonowal added that the 21st century is the age of science & technology and innovation & incubation. This is the time for increased focus on technology, learning, research and innovation, pointed out Sonowal adding that youth should focus more on technological innovation to take the country forward.

Mentionable is that the competition was organized by Assam Police Cyber Dome from July to October for exploring the young minds and their ideas for solving day to day problems  encountered by the police through application of technology. It’s focus areas included controlling cyber crime, anti-trafficking of women and children, safety of women, old & infirm, facial recognition software to track criminals, financial crimes etc. The competition drew more than 2.46lakh responses with 2,286 individual registrations. Accordingly, 519 teams were formed and 246 teams submitted concept notes. Out of these, a total number of 139 teams were shortlisted and 72 teams made their final submissions.

Agada team from Sri Krishna College of Engineering & Technology (Tamilnadu), Code Bluff team from Walchand College (Maharashtra) and Cyberon team  from Amal  Jyoti College of Engineering (Kerela) were selected for the first three awards. The team from Tamilnadu won the prize for developing software application named Shecure, which is a smart solution for women safety. Similarly, the Maharashtra team developed Stockbook, a user-friendly inventory management application available in multiple languages. Kerela team was honoured for developing Snimoz to track vehicles passing between two points along with details like real-time movement, speed violations, restricted zone entry etc. The award ceremony was also graced by  State chief secretary Jishnu Baruah and State police chief Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, CM’s media adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, State home commissioner & secretary GD Tripathi,additional police chiefs GP   Singh,  Harmeet Singh, LR Bishnoi, senior special branch officer Hiren Chandra Nath with many other dignitaries.
