Guwahati (The Stellar News): Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal conferred prestigious Shrimanta Shankardev Award 2020 on eminent Assamese litterateur, scholar, researcher, professor Bhavaprasad Chaliha at a function held in Shrimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra premises on 3 January 2021. Nandita Chaliha, wife of the awardee, received the honour carrying acitation, gold medal, sarai, angabastra and a cheque of rupees five lakh, as Chaliha could not attend the program due to ill health.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal announced that the BJP led government in Dispur would soon start Shrimanta Shankardev mission to spread the ideals of Gurujana. He called for united efforts by all stakeholders to establish Shankardev’s legacy at the world stage in near future. Stressing on the importance of strengthening the Namghars, Sonowal commented that the ancient institution has the capacity to inculcate moral values among the regular visitors. The soft spoken gentleman politician also highlighted the initiative to instill Gurujana’s ideals among the younger generation through education by setting up higher educational institutions in memory of Shankardev, his primary disciple Madhabdev, etc.
Sonowal appreciated the efforts of Shrimanta Shankardev Sangha in setting up the university to propagate the ideals of
Gurujana. In presence of State finance, education, etc minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, cultural minister Naba Doley, Parliamentarian Queen Oja, CM’s media adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, with several Satradhikars and other dignitaries, Sonowal elaborated about the government’s initiative to preserve the prestige and stature of each big and small communities living in Assam.
