5 left in UK PM race, Rishi Sunak tops second round of voting

Delhi (The Stellar News): Rishi Sunak is leading in the race to replace Boris Johnson as the leader of the Conservative Party and become the PM of Britain. He gained 101 votes in the second round of voting and emerged as the winner on Thursday, July 15, 2022.

After the second round of voting, five candidates are left in the Tory Leadership Contest and Suella Braveman, the Indian-origin Attorney General in the fray, was out of the race with least vote count of 27. The other candidates remaining on the ballot after the votes were cast by the lawmakers are Trade Minister Penny Mordaunt with 83 votes, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss 64 votes, former minister Kemi Badenoch, 49 votes, and Tory backbencher Tom Tugendhat with 32 votes.
