Chandigarh hosts national conference on “Drug Trafficking and National Security”

Chandigarh (The Stellar News): Under the direction of Union Minister Amit Shah, a national conference on drug trafficking and national security was held at Chandigarh today. Dr. Virendra Kumar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Bhagwant Maan, Chief Minister of Punjab, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Manoj Sinha, Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab & Administrator of Chandigarh,  Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Home Secretary, Shri R Subrahmanyam, Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment and Shri Satya Narayan Pradhan, Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) were among the presentees, at the event.

The aforementioned event saw the official launch of two Navchetna (A New Consciousness on Life Skills and Drug Education for School Children) teacher training modules for class 6 to 8 and class 9 to 11, respectively. These modules aim to raise students’ awareness of life skills and drug addiction in Indian schools. The training materials are being translated into 12 Indian regional languages,expanding the reach and effect of NAVCHETNA. Each module will be available as a video to be posted on DIKSHA (Digital educational platform of Ministry of Education) portal as teacher support resource. The Ministry’s goal is to spread awareness among 10 lakh teachers and 2.4 crore within a year through this module.

A film about the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), which depicts the path of the awareness programme and how it reached more than 8 crore people, including 3 crore young people, 2 crore women, and 1 lakh educational institutions, was then shown during the event. The border public was made aware of the PM’s message through this video.

Then the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah presented the NMBA award to the top-performing NMBA States, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Gujarat, as well as the top performing NMBA Districts Datia, Thoubal, and Chandigarh.
