DELHI MCD HOUSE ADJOURNED WITHOUT ELECTING MCD MAYOR FOR THE THIRD TIME IN A MONTH

New Delhi (The Stellar News) Saksham Kalia: Aam Aadmi Party is all set to move to Supreme Court after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi House adjourned for the third time in a month without electing Mayor. The ruckus erupted over the nominated person allowed to vote in the Mayor election.

AAP leader Atishi on Monday said the party will move the Supreme Court to challenge the BJP’s decision of giving voting rights to the aldermen. “Last time we withdrew our petition against the BJP because by then the dates for mayor polls were approved and the voting rights of aldermen were also not clear whether the nominated members will vote or not but today it is clear, they have illegally given the Voting rights to aldermen. We will move to Supreme court and challenge the BJP’s decision,” she said.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi House adjourned without electing mayor for third time in a month on Monday. A ruckus erupted over the nominated members being allowed to vote in the election to the post. ‘Elections cannot be held in such an atmosphere. The house is adjourned until the next date,’ said presiding officer Satya Sharma. Ahead of the voting for electing the mayor at Municipal House in Delhi on Monday, presiding officer Satya Sharma said that as per the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, alderman are eligible to vote in the mayor, deputy mayor polls. According to the Act, ten people, over the age of 25 can be nominated to the corporation by the L-G, to assist the house in taking decisions of public importance. AAP has cried foul, alleging that procedural norms were violated by the LG in choosing 10 BJP members as aldermen, who are expected to play a crucial role in determining who controls the MCD.
