Hoshiarpur (The Stellar News): Whereas HOSHIARPUR – Following an emergency session of the Executive Committee, the Bar Association Hoshiarpur has officially announced a total suspension of work effective immediately. Under the leadership of Sh. P.S. Ghuman, President, the legal fraternity will abstain from all court proceedings from February 5th through February 7th, 2026.
President p.s ghuman said, This localized action aligns with a broader State-Level Joint Resolution, uniting Bar Associations across Punjab and Haryana against policies that advocates argue threaten the integrity of the judicial system. HE said, The Bar Association has identified two primary “systemic stressors” that have made the current working environment unsustainable:
The “Action Plan” Pressure: Current mandates requiring the disposal of cases within aggressive, shortened durations have been labeled “unrealistic.” The Association notes that this focus on statistical output has placed immense psychological and physical strain on advocates, ultimately compromising the quality of justice for litigants.
The LADC Policy: The functioning of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) system is being challenged as a direct threat to the independence of the Bar. Members argue the policy prejudices practicing advocates and undermines the traditional framework of the legal profession.
General Secretary Navjinder Singh issued a clear directive to all members, stating that the strike will be absolute.
“To safeguard the dignity of our profession, no advocate shall participate in court proceedings or enter courtrooms during this three-day period. This is a necessary stand to ensure that the interests of the public are not sacrificed for the sake of mere statistics,” Singh stated.
The Bar Association Hoshiarpur remains committed to a justice system that prioritizes due process over speed and maintains the independence of the legal community.
