Guwahati (The Stellar News):Following State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s direction for a CID probe into the death of senior journalist Parag Bhuyan, a team led by senior officer Bibekananda Das proceeded to Tinsukia in eastern Assam. Das, accompanied by his deputy Pradip Kumar Das and inspector Jitesh Barman along with a forensic team have already left the city.
It may be mentioned that Kakopathar based television journalist Bhuyan (55) was killed in a mysterious road accident yesterday. The PratidinTime news channel reporter was taken to Dibrugarh for treatment after the accident but he succumbed to injuries. Various journo-bodies suspected foul-play and hence demanded a probe into the incident.
Meanwhile, the police seized the vehicle that knocked down Bhuyan and arrested its driver James Murha and handyman Baba Bordoloi from Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh. Guv, CM greet people: Assam Governor professor Jagdish Mukhi and CM Sonowal greeted the people on the occasion of Kali Puja and Deepavali (Dewali, Diwali, Dipanwita) scheduled for Saturday and Sunday across the country. In a message to all sections of the people of Assam, Governor Mukhi said that the festival of light is celebrated to dispel the darkness and give wisdom a chance to prevail over ignorance.
On this occasion, the Governor called upon everybody to celebrate the festival spreading the message of universal brotherhood and harmonious coexistence. Extending his greetings to the people on the occasion, Sonowal commented that the Dewali signifies the triumph of good over evil and serves to dispel darkness and ignorance from society. He urged the people to make the festival more illuminating yet safe taking forward the government’s avowed goal of making Assam a pollution-free State. Earlier, in a bid to promote the pottery industry, Sonowal went to a local market at Kamakhya temple locality to buy earthen lamps.
He also interacted with the vendors. Speaking to media persons, Sonowal said that Prme Minister Narendra Modi has given us a call to be vocal for local in a bid to make the country economically self-reliant. “We have to set our goals clear and strive hard for capturing global market by adequately focusing on indigenous products and producing quality goods,: said Sonowal adding that the local pottery industry had tremendous potential and there was a need to
promote the people involved with the crafts.
