Assam government started Free bus Service for women, senior citizens

Guwahati (The Stellar News),Nava Thakuria: Assam government has launched a free city bus service for women and senior citizens, first of its kind in Guwahati, to travel within the virtual capital of northeast India. State CM arbananda Sonowal flagged off 25 pink buses rearmarked under Bhraman Saarathi scheme in a ceremony held in the city. These dedicated bus service for women and senior citizens are scheduled to ply in five routes (namely Khanapara to Jalukbari via Paltan Bazar, Forestgate to Jalukbari via Chandmari, Basistha temple to Jalukbari via Paltan Bazar, Khanapara to Jalukbari via ISBT and Bhetapara games village  to Jalukbari via Paltan Bazar).

While flagging off the new buses, Sonowal said this free transport service would immensely help the beneficiaries and he also urged all commuters to take adequate care of these vehicles. Appreciating the role played by the State transport corporation (ASTC) during the Covid-19 pandemic in transporting essential items, medicines, vegetables, fruits etc within the region, Sonowal wantd the corporation to continue the zeal.

Further to bring back people who were stranded outside during the pandemic, Sonowal commented that the ASTC played a remarkable role. He lauded State transport minister CM Patowary and all concerned officials, drivers and handymen for their  dedicated service during the pandemic. In presence of Patowary, ASTC chairman Ashok Bhattarai, Assam finance corporation chairman Bijoy Kumar Gupta with other senior government officers, Sonowal viewed that the new bus service introduced by the ASTC would give a new dimension to the government’s welfare measures in the New Year.
