Much awaited double laning work on Rajouri- Thanamandi-Surankote road started

J&K/ Rajouri ( The Stellar News ), Anil Bhardwaj: District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan today in presence of DDC members Officers of tge BRTF, PRI’s and Civil Administration Thanamandi, Kickstarts the work on the much-awaited Rajouri- Thanamandi- Surankote Road, an important project of the BRO.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Rajouri-Thanamandi- Surankote road is one of the vital roads of the BRO in Pir Panjal region which connects the border district Rajouri to Mughal road.

A multifold increase in vehicular movement has been recorded on this road in the last five years but the single-lane road is posing severe hardships for people and the road is presently in a miserable condition which creates an extreme inconvenience for the public.

Being the shortest route to Kashmir Valley, this road meets the historical Mughal road at Bafliaz in Poonch district. Hundreds of tourists and passenger vehicles and trucks take this road to enter Kashmir valley from Jammu and other parts of the country and vice versa.

The existing road would be widened and a two-lane road would be constructed on it which would reduce the traffic congestion and also reduce the journey time. The road is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 284.22 crores and the work on the road would be completed within two years.

The public demand of this road was 40 years old, and was hanging for 18 years . However, after Sanction of project and DPR, still it remained pending for 2 years. However, the Deputy commissioner, resolved all bottle necks in two months and vigrously took up the matter with BRO and contractor. He also facilitated the intending agency and got the things materialized.

Public welcomed the District Development Commissioner with bands and garlands and everyone was in a jubilant mood as work on the most awaited project is about to kick-start today and appreciated the District Administration for fulfilling their long-pending demand.

DDC while speaking on the occasion congratulated the public of Thanamandi and said that it is a historic moment for them as their long-pending demand has been fulfilled today. He said that the District Administration Rajouri is committed towards providing the best possible relief to the general public in terms of connectivity so that the sufferings of the comuters can be mitigated to some extent and several measures are underway in this regard.

He also said, District Rajouri has a huge potential in the tourism sector and this road project would play a significant role in boosting the tourism sector and ultimately will open avenues for economic activities and of the district .

DDC assured that the work on the road would be completed within the set deadlines and asked the executing agency to maintain the quality while executing work on the project. He also appealed to execute the work on the project in such a manner that the routined traffic movement doesn’t suffer due to the construction work.

“The project also provides the employment avenues among the local unemployed youth and skilled labour,” the DDC said.

DDC also said that District Administration Rajouri is committed to ensuring hundred per cent transparency and accountability in its functioning and several measures have been taken to provide the best possible relief to the common masses to mitigate their sufferings.

DDC informed that a 24/7 grievance redressal cell has been set up in the DDC office where the people can call any time and get their grievances registered for their redressal.

“District Administration Rajouri is committed to ensuring the proper implementation of the Government schemes and programmes on the ground level to ensure that the benefits of the welfare schemes percolate to the last beneficiary of the district”, the DDC said.

DDC also urged upon the public to get themselves registered under the SEHAT scheme to avail necessary benefits under the said scheme.

DDC highly appreciated the cooperation of the general public in its initiative of declaring Rajouri as a white City besides he sought their more support in this regard and urged upon them to keep their surroundings neat, clean and green.
