Guwahati (The Stellar News): Assam Governor professor Jagdish Mukhi, State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with the people condoled the death of Haradhan Chandra Ray, a soldier belonging to Indian Army’s 59 artillery forward regiment who was martyred at Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir along the Indo-Pakistan border due to the heavy shelling across LoC from the neighboring country violating the ceasefire. Governor Mukhi stated that enormous sacrifices made by the soldiers are the glaring examples of the valour, dedication and patriotism. They set an example of utmost sacrifice and love for the country which will never go in vain, said Mukhi adding that that their dedication and devotion would definitely be a source of inspiration for the posterity. Hailed from Medhipara village in western Assam’s Dhubri district, Roy left behind his parents (Tankeswar Roy and Anima Roy), wife and a
minor son with other relatives. Sonowal, while extending his condolences to the bereaved family members, prayed for the eternal
peace of the departed soul. Roy along with four other armed forces personnel died on Friday in different sectors including Uri, Keran, Izmarg etc. Terming the incident dastardly, Sonowal commented that they made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation and left behind a glowing example of patriotism. Roy would remain immortal and would keep inspiring the young generation through his bravery and sacrifice, added Sonowal. On the occasion of Children’s Day, Sonowal visited the SOS children’s
village near LGBI airport at the city-outskirt to interact with the young people and their caretakers. Extending Dewali (Diwali,
Deepawali, Deepanwita) greetings to the children, Sonowal distributed fruits & gifts among them advising them to work hard with commitment to be successful in life.
While calling on the children to give importance to human values in developing their personalities, Sonowal dwelled on thesignificance of observation of the day on former PM Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday and referred to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of non-violence and peace as keys to achieving a society based on moral values and brotherhood. He also stressed on the need of giving equal importance to sports and physical exercise in the formative years of the children for a healthy life. Putting emphasis on the importance of traits such as honesty, dedication and commitment to evolve into ideal citizens and make meaningful contributions to nation building process, Sonowal advised the children to persevere and make consistent efforts to excel
in their chosen fields braving all odds.
In presence of Guwahati Parliamentarian Queen Ojah, Kamrup (metro) district magistrate Biswajit Pegu, SOS village director Subodh Das with other dignitaries, Sonowal emphasized on inspiring the children to imbibe humanitarian values to prepare them as good citizens in future. He also appreciated various efforts of the authority in the village and assured supports always.
