Rahul Gandhi pays tributes to his guru Tarun Gogoi

thousands of people cutting across their party affiliations as the Congress veteran’s mortal remains are placed at Shrimanta
Shankaradeva Kalakshetra in the city for public viewing for the whole day.

Meanwhile, INC top leader Rahul Gandhi is visiting  Guwahati to pay his last tribute to Gogoi at the Kalakshetra  premises.  Gandhi, who had enormous respect to Gogoi, is expected to arrive in the city after a short while where he is likely to stay from some time with the popular politician’s wife Dolly Gogoi, son and a Congress Parliamentarian Gaurav Gogoi, non-resident  Indian daughter Chandrima Gogoi with other close relatives. Senior Congress leaders like jitendra Singh,  KC Venugopal are also accompanying Gandhi. Cremation of the three-time State chief minister, who died of post-Covid-19 complications on Monday at Guwahati medical college and hospital, is scheduled for tomorrow at Navagraha crematorium.

Many people from Gogoi’s home place in Jorhat wanted to perform his last rites there but finally the family members decided otherwise. His last journey will start from the Kalakshetra premises on 26 November and following Gogoi’s wish, the mortal remains will be brought to a temple, a mosque and a church before the final rites. Gogoi’s cremation will be done with full state honours, as directed by State chief minister and BJP leader Sarbananda Sonowal. His deputy and powerful State minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been looking after all arrangements to Gogoi’s last journey.

Earlier, yesterday morning a decorated vehicle with flowers brought Gogoi  to his  government residence in Dispur for necessary rituals. Later in the Secretariat,  State minister   Chandra   Mohan Patowary, CM Sarbananda Sonowal’s media advisor, State chief secretary Jishnu Baruah, State police chief  Bhaskarjyoti   Mahanta with others paid floral tributes to him. The party workers paid homage to their beloved leader at the State Congress office.
