Guwahati (The Stellar News): Union home minister Amit Shah, on the occasion of first anniversary of the signing of BTR accord in Assam, honoured the martyrs of Bodo movement handing over cheques worth rupees five lakh to each family. Attending a mass rally at Bodofa town in Kokrajhar on 24 January 2021, Shah commented that the accord marked the end of three decades long unrests ushering in an era of peace and friendship. The disturbance and violence which once ruled the roost in Bodo ominated localities have disappeared as peace and tranquility become orders of the day, commented Shah adding that the signing of historic BTR accord marked the successful culmination of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma along with thousands’ dream who took active role in establishing autonomy for the Bodo people in the specified areas. The senior BJP leader also launched the digital office management system for the BTC and laid the foundation of a number of projects including polytechnic & skill development centres, Bodo art & culture centre, Gorkha bhawan, cultural complex in memory of Bodofa and a new medical college.
In presence of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State finance, health, education etc minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BTC chief Pramod Boro with others, Shah asserted that the development of northeast India is always the commitment of the Centre and that indicates the special commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the region. Sonowal in his speech called upon the people of BTR to work hard and contribute towards Atmanirbhar Assam and Atmanirbhar BTR. Stating that all clauses of BTR will be implemented, Sonowal assured that the government would provide all possible help to the newly elected council in the BTR. On the other hand, Sarma termed the day as the day of fulfillment and satisfaction. He also announced that new medical colleges would be set up in Baksa and Chirang and at the same time a new campus of Bodoland University would be set up in Udalguri and a new bridge would be constructed at Tamulpur over the Pagladia river. BTC chief commented that prior to BTR accord, people of Bodo land were living their lives in uncertainty, but signing of the accord has given rise a new era of peace and prosperity. Boro however did not forget to request the government to seize all illegal arms in BTR areas. He maintained his hope that with the help of the accord the aspirations of the BTR residents would be fulfilled.
