ASSAM ELECTIONS: REPOLING ON ASSAM’s POLLING BOOTH AFTER REPORTS OF EVM’s FOUNDED IN BJP’s CANDIDATE CAR

Delhi (The Stellar News),Saksham: On Thursday, BJP’s candidate car was founded with EVMs in Assam. This incident was happened in Ratabari constituency of Assam. After this incident EC ordered fresh polling in that particular polling booth and 4 officers involved were suspended. The full incident was that, after conducting Polling, Elections Commission officers were shifting EVMs from polling booths to strong room.

Similarly, officers of 149 numbered Polling booth were following the procedure. On 9:00pm when they were on the way to strong room their vehicle stopped working. Officers called up sector officer for help and officer assured to provide another one. But after not getting any help they at on 9:20 took lift from a private car without checking the ownership of that car. When car reached the locality where the strong room is situated the supporters of opposition party identified the BJP’s candidate car and attacked on it.

The car was completely vandalised by them, officers and driver ran away from location to safe their life. Mob created chaos. Later police involved in the matter and secured the EVM’s. The EVM’s were fully sealed and were submitted in strong room.After that the BJP candidate Krishnendu Paul electoral affidavit cleared that the car is owned by his wife. This incident gave chance to opposition parties to raise questions against ruling party. Many senior leaders of congress tweeted on this topic. The Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi, for instance, has said “this is the only way the BJP can win Assam”. This is a big failure of Election Commission but the responsibility of people cannot be ignored. If the negligent behaviour is shown by EC but the reaction of opposition supporters to this was not appropriate. The reason given by EC officers may be true.
